Have a Nice Day: Junk Light

Common Accounts presents the video "Have a Nice Day: Junk Light" in Shaping Atmospheres, curated by Ala Roushan and Charles Stankievech at the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture, Landscape, and Design at the University of Toronto (October 2-December 21, 2024).
The video understands the beach as a technological assemblage that structures the body’s engagement with the sun. Its voice-over is written from phrases taken from online advertising for light therapy devices. Have a Nice Day: Junk Light acknowledges the sun's evident re-calibration and prospective domestication. Its energies are today not only managed with familiar instruments like loungers and beach umbrellas, but, increasingly, artificially reproduced indoors.
Video edited by Andrew Gilbride. Featuring research by Marie-Ellen Houde-Hostland, Emilie Tamtik, and Elizaveta Grishina.
